Tororo Traders Evicted From Busia Road, Seek New Sites

Several vendors operating along Tororo–Busia Road at Corner Junction have been left searching for alternative business space after Tororo Municipality and Osukuru Town Council enforced a trade order to clear roadside traders. The eviction follows a seven-day ultimatum issued to traders operating along the road, which falls under Tororo Municipality Eastern Division and Osukuru Town Council. Osukuru Town Council Town Clerk Samali Sabano Epiat commended the traders for complying with the notice. “They obliged by the seven-day notice issued to them,” she said, adding that the council is committed to supporting the affected vendors with space inside the gazetted market. However, Eastern Division Town Clerk Methuselah Oloka said the exercise was driven by policy and not a public meeting. “Compliance is required under policy. The camp offered services including eye care, reproductive health, general treatment, maternal health, and specialized attention to sickle cell and mental health patients.
