Uganet: GBV Cases Drop from 76% to 32% as 7-Year UN Women Project Ends in Tororo

Officials of Uganet  handing over an accolade to district probation officer  By David Imaa  The Uganda Network on Law, Ethics and HIV/AIDS (Uganet) has handed over a 7-year project funded by UN Women to Tororo District, after cutting cases of gender-based violence (GBV) from 76% to 32% in Nagongera and Mukuju sub-counties. Uganet staff member Julius Oburu, representing the Executive Director, said the project’s community-led approach was key. “When we started 7 years ago, GBV prevalence here stood at 76%. Today, we are handing over when it’s at 32%. This is proof that empowering community activists and local leaders works,” Oburu said. He committed that Uganet will continue supporting the volunteer structures. “This is not the end. URA staff Car Kills Cleaner in Tororo Service Center Accident

    Tororo April 29, 2026 Tororo Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Service Center in Tororo Municipality. The accident involved a black Subaru Forester, registration number UA 754DC, driven by Inapat Janervive, 50, a URA official . She is a resident of URA Quarters in Tororo Municipality. Police identified the deceased as Nambozo Sarah, 32, a , who worked as a cleaner at the URA Service Center. She was a resident of Tororo Municipality. According to a statement from Moses Johnson Mugwe the Bukedi south region police spokesman , the driver allegedly knocked Nambozo while she was cleaning the veranda within the URA Service Center premises.  Tororo CPS said the preliminary cause of the accident is careless driving by the driver of UA 754DC.  Police officers attached to Tororo CPS visited the scene.
