As President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni prepares to visit Tororo District tomorrow for a high-profile campaign rally and infrastructure launch, the political spotlight is intensifying on the district’s Woman MP race—one of the most anticipated contests in Eastern Uganda.

The showdown features Hon. Sarah Achieng Opendi, the incumbent and National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer, facing a formidable challenge from Akoth Angela, a respected lawyer and independent candidate.

 Akoth Angela: The Legal Voice of Reform

Akoth Angela has emerged as a fresh force in Tororo politics. Known for her work in legal aid, civic education, and women’s rights, she is running on a platform of accountability, transparency, and grassroots empowerment. Her campaign has gained traction among youth and professionals disillusioned with traditional party politics.

“Tororo deserves leadership that listens, not just during elections but every day,” Akoth said during a recent community dialogue in Mulanda.

 Opendi’s Experience and Nrm Party Muscle

Opendi is expected to feature prominently during the President’s visit, especially as the NRM seeks to consolidate support in the Bukedi subregion. Her allies argue that her experience and national influence are critical for delivering development to Tororo.

“The President’s visit is a testament to the trust and partnership we’ve built over the years,” Opendi told reporters ahead of the rally.
